May 3, 2011: Here at the BDC Reporter we’re all about giving our readers a full a picture of the Business Development Company industry. We noticed an interesting article on Investopedia by Aaron Levitt with the enticing title “Big Dividends in BDCs”. The article provides a brief, broad overview of what BDCs do, and mentions a number of prospective investments. We like how the author contrasts the attractions of the BDC sector versus REITs and MLPs. Mr Levitt’s info is pretty much up to date. He mentions the new UBS E-Trac ETN (ticker:BDCS) , which we’ve discussing on these pages on April 20, and again on May 1st. Overall, the article is targeted at new prospective investors in the BDC space, so regular readers may not find much really new, except to reinforce what you may already know or suspect. However, we did note a very interesting metric from a BDC index we are not yet familiar with. Here’s the quote:
“After the drubbing that all stocks took during the Great Recession, the Ladenburg Thalmann BDC index returned nearly 45% in 2010, versus only a 13% gain for the S&P 500″.
Anyway, BDC Reporter will continue to bring you interesting insights we bump into on the web, and feel free to point out any interesting links you might want to share with us.
