BDC Reporter: BDC Best Ideas Table

This Subscriber Tool was launched in mid-June 2026. We are sharing with our readers the BDC Reporter's survey of all 45 public BDCs and - more importantly - identifying which are deemed worthy of investing in, and which are not. We break down the stocks into 3 conventional categories: BUY, DON'T BUY, and HOLD. That last category is for stocks we may already own, or we are undecided about. We remind you that these "Best Ideas" reflect our own risk tolerance and return expectations and are offered for educational purposes. What is good for the BDC Reporter may not be the right investment for you, as the hundreds of self-appointed stock analysts out there should bear in mind. Our Best Ideas are intended for the BDC Reporter's own portfolio, held at Fidelity, which - since its launch at the beginning of 2025 - has managed to eke out a modest return, but substantially higher than the performance of the only BDC exchange-traded fund over the same period - BIZD.
For the week ended Friday, August 14, 2026, we updated 5 BDC investment assessments. The BDCs involved, by ticker, were BCSF, BXSL, CCAP, CGBD, and OTF. These BDCs are very different, and IIQ 2026 performance varied. However, all were rated DON'T BUY before and remain so after these updates. Read our assessments for the reasons why.

How This Works

The BDC Reporter works day and night, keeping up with developments across the public BDC sector. Much of that research finds its way into this publication and the BDC Credit Reporter as articles and into constantly updated Subscriber Tools that track every player's key financial metrics. However, the ultimate goal is not "News, Views And Analysis" for its own sake, but to help both ourselves and our readers make better BDC investment decisions.

Change Of Direction

Until recently, though, we were reluctant to mix our own investment viewpoint with the objective sector analysis we like to believe we offer. However, as AI has made information gathering and even some level of analysis increasingly a commodity, we've shifted.

We're synthesizing all that research down into what actions to take in very difficult market conditions. Hopefully, the "ideas" on offer - and the logic behind them - will provide our readers with food for thought in their own investment journey.

Ever Changing

This is a dynamic subject, with new developments and changes in market prices that constantly affect our bottom-line conclusions. That's why you'll see us frequently updating the BDC Reporter's Best Ideas Table, so check back often as we amend our views on individual BDCs, market conditions, and our own strategic approach. We date-stamp every evaluation and highlight the most recent updates in green. We'll also write occasional articles on evolving market conditions and how we propose to navigate them, so stay tuned for those alongside our regular analytical output.
